2026 Cost Guide · Burlington

Christmas Light Installation Costs in Burlington (2026)

Planning ranges for holiday lighting in Burlington for the 2026 season, and why an Aldershot bungalow and a Millcroft two-storey come out so differently.

These are planning estimates, not prices. They show what this work commonly comes to on Burlington houses so you can judge a quote. Your number is written after a look at the house or at clear photos, because roofline length, height, pitch and the route the power takes are where the time goes.

Seasonal installation

  • Bungalow, front roofline: typically $350–$800 installed with commercial-grade LED supplied, including takedown and storage.
  • Two-storey, front roofline and peaks: typically $650–$1,500. High front gables, dormers and sloped ground push to the top of the range.
  • Full outline with sides, windows and garage: typically $1,100–$2,800.
  • Using your own lights: typically 20–40 per cent less, if your strings are outdoor-rated, certified and in good condition.

Permanent lighting

  • Installed track, addressable LED and controller: typically $25–$45 per linear foot. The front and garage of a Millcroft or Alton Village two-storey is often 90 to 160 feet, which commonly lands around $2,800–$6,500.
  • A new exterior outlet or circuit, where needed: typically $200–$600, by a Licensed Electrical Contractor with ESA notification, quoted as its own line.

Against hiring a seasonal install of the same roofline, permanent lighting usually comes out ahead within three to five seasons, and it is used all year.

Trees, landscape and extras

  • Mature tree, trunk and main limbs: typically $150–$500 per tree, by size and wrap density.
  • Evergreens and shrubs: typically $75–$300 each.
  • Wreaths and garland, door and porch: typically $100–$400.
  • Walkway lighting: typically $100–$300 for a standard front walk.

Takedown and storage alone

  • Takedown of lights you or someone else hung: typically $150–$450.
  • Labelled storage of your lights: typically $50–$150 a season.

Commercial

A storefront window and awning treatment commonly starts around $600–$1,500. Plazas, condominium corporations and business park frontages are quoted after a site visit, with lifts and after-hours work included in the price.

What moves the price

  • Height and pitch. The main factor. A two-storey eave around six metres up is slower work under fall-protection rules than a bungalow eave from a short ladder.
  • Length lit. Linear feet of eave, peak, window and garage.
  • Exposure. Lakeshore houses need tighter clip spacing and tied-off runs for wind.
  • Power. Where the GFCI outlets are and how many feed points the design needs.
  • Rural lots. Long lanes, outbuildings and far-apart outlets in the north add time.
  • Timing. December installs on icy roofs take longer.

Running cost, for perspective

The electricity is a small part of the total. At the Ontario Energy Board's November 1, 2026 prices, a 100-watt LED roofline lit for five hours uses half a kilowatt-hour a night, under five cents at the off-peak price on a Burlington Hydro bill and under twenty cents even in the Ultra-Low Overnight plan's 4-to-9 p.m. weekday peak at 37.7 cents per kilowatt-hour. Old incandescent strings can draw ten times as much.

What a quote should say

Which lines are lit and with what lights, supplied or yours, that fastening is by clips, whether takedown, storage and service calls are included, and for permanent lighting the warranty and any electrical work. HST is shown separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is buying the lights cheaper than having them supplied each season?

Over several years, owning is usually cheaper, but you store and replace them. Supplied lights put storage and failures on the installer. The quote can show both.

How long does permanent lighting take to pay off?

Usually three to five seasons against a seasonal install of the same roofline, sooner if you would have decorated for other holidays too.

Why is a smaller two-storey quoted higher than a bigger bungalow?

Height. Two-storey eaves and gables are worked under fall-protection rules and take longer per foot than a bungalow roofline reached from a short ladder.

Do lakeshore houses cost more?

Sometimes a little, because clips go on at tighter spacing and runs are tied off against the wind.

Is there a charge for a quote?

No. Most houses are quoted from a short visit or from photos of the front and sides.

Do the ranges include HST?

No. The planning ranges are before tax, and quotes show HST separately.
