Christmas Light Takedown and Storage in Burlington

In Burlington the lights usually come down in the same weeks the real trees go out to the curb. Nobody wants to be on a ladder for either.

Takedown comes with every seasonal install booked here, and it is offered on its own for lights you put up yourself. The goal is the same: everything off without damage, nothing left in the eavestroughs, and next year easier than this one.

When

From the first week of January, on days the roof can be reached safely. Halton Region's Christmas tree collection for the 2025 season ran on regular collection days in the weeks of January 5 to 9 and January 12 to 16, and lights usually come down across the same fortnight. January is also the icier month, with freezing rain on about three days on average at the Hamilton airport station, so an iced-up roofline waits for a thaw. The timer is switched off on your date either way.

How

  • Released, not pulled. Clips are unhooked so the eavestrough lip and shingle edges are left as they were.
  • Tested. Each run is checked and failed bulbs or damaged sections are logged for replacement before next season.
  • Labelled. Every run is coiled and tagged for where it goes: front eave, garage, left dormer, maple by the drive.
  • Stored. Installer-owned lights go to off-site storage. Your own lights can be stored for you or left in labelled bins in your garage.

Buying or leasing the lights

On the first install you can buy the cut-to-fit lights outright, and they are yours. Or they stay the installer's, and each season's price covers install, service, takedown and storage of the same set. Buying suits households staying put with room to store; the lease-style option suits those who would rather not own or store anything. Terms are set in the written quote, and nothing renews without the date and price being confirmed with you first.

Retired lights

Old incandescent strings and sets that fail the check are left with you to dispose of under Halton Region's rules, which are on its waste pages.

What next year looks like

The point of labelled storage is that the second install is quicker and tidier than the first. The runs were cut to your house the first year, so they go back on the same eaves and peaks with no trimming, no spare loops and no guessing which string belongs where. Failed bulbs logged at takedown are replaced over the summer. Returning households are offered a November slot in September with the price confirmed in writing, and anyone who wants to add a tree, the back roofline or a garland on the porch can do it then. Households that have been through two or three seasons this way are the ones most often asking about permanent lighting, and the takedown visit is a convenient time to measure for it, since the installer is already on the roof and can see the soffit and fascia closely.
