Christmas Light Installation in Burlington

Lighting a Burlington house well is mostly about fit: lines cut to the exact length of each eave, clips at tight spacing so the wind off the lake does not move them, and power planned so no outlet is asked to do too much.

Every seasonal install starts with a design on a photo of your house. The installer walks the property first: which rooflines read from the street, where the outdoor outlets are and whether they are GFCI-protected with weatherproof in-use covers, where the overhead service wire comes in, and what the ground under each ladder position is like. You choose the look, a clean warm-white outline, classic multicolour, or warm white on the house and colour on the trees, and the quote is priced line by line from that drawing.

What goes up

  • Eaves and rooflines. LED C9 or C7 bulbs on commercial-grade wire, cut to length so every run starts and ends at a corner with no slack hanging off the end.
  • Peaks and dormers. Lit from the ridge on shingle clips that follow the pitch, the detail that makes a Roseland storey-and-a-half or a Millcroft two-storey read as a shape at night.
  • Windows, doors and columns. Mini-lights or bulb lines around frames and wrapped up porch columns, held with clips and ties, never adhesive.
  • Garage fronts. The wide garage faces of north Burlington houses are outlined so the garage does not sit as a dark block in the middle of the display.

Built for the lake

Houses south of New Street and along Lakeshore Road get wind off open water that houses in Alton Village do not. Clip spacing is tighter, runs are tied off at corners, and nothing is left as a loose loop for the wind to work on. Connections are lifted off the eavestrough floor, where meltwater collects, and off the ground, as ESA advises, so a thaw does not trip the outlet.

Lights that pass the check

Every string carries a Canadian certification mark from an accredited agency and is rated for outdoor use. Commercial-grade LED has sealed sockets and heavier wire than store-bought sets, and draws a fraction of the power of incandescent strings. Long rooflines are fed from more than one point so no more than three strings are ever joined end to end.

Timing

Installs run from late October into the first part of December on dry days. Lights can be hung in early November with the timer set to start on the date you choose, such as the weekend the Festival of Lights opens.

Through the season

Service calls are part of a seasonal install. A dark section after a storm, a GFCI that trips in a thaw, or a run nudged by a falling branch is reported by text with a photo and put right on the next service round, usually within a few days. An outlet that keeps tripping is traced, and if the cause is the outlet itself, you are told it needs a Licensed Electrical Contractor rather than having it worked around.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pick the date the lights first come on?

Yes. Install happens on a dry day in November and the timer starts on the date you choose.

Warm white or multicolour?

Either, or both. Warm white is the common choice on Roseland's and Aldershot's older brick houses; multicolour is popular on the newer north-end streets. The design photo shows both before you decide.

Will clips damage my eavestroughs or shingles?

No. Clips grip the eavestrough lip or slide under the shingle edge with no fasteners and come off cleanly. Brittle or curling shingles are noted on the walk-around before anything is clipped to them.
